Sinnington Community Primary Curriculum Intent Statement

At Sinnington Community Primary, we endeavour to provide an inclusive environment ensuring children are successful learners, who are equipped with the secure foundations to lead a successful life in modern day Britain. We aim to inspire children to have high aspirations and to make positive contributions to their community. We have a bespoke curriculum, with strong community links that ensures SMSC underpins the ethos of the school and develops pupils’ moral, spiritual, social and cultural understanding well.

We believe at Sinnington Community Primary that every child is unique and our curriculum is designed to build on prior learning and provide all children with first hand learning experiences: allowing them to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience, become creative and critical thinkers. We want to constantly provide enrichment opportunities to engage learning within the local area and further afield by celebrating local traditions, inviting visitors into school, and having new experiences through trips and visits to broaden our children’s knowledge not only of the local area but the world around us. Our children will leave Sinnington Primary School with a confidence inspired by the knowledge they have acquired of the world with a clear understanding of their value and responsibilities within society.  They will have the skills to make decisions, self-evaluate, and make connections so that they become passionate lifelong learners.

At Sinnington Community Primary, we use our outdoor space to complement our curriculum. Our outdoor learning enables us to build young people's independence and self-esteem through experiencing the natural world. It provides children and young people a grass roots appreciation and respect for the outdoor environment, giving learners the opportunity to engage with their local environment. Helping them build resilience, the confidence to explore their own curiosities and develop an appreciation for their local surroundings.

Sport has a high profile at Sinnington Community Primary and pupils are introduced to a variety of activities. The children are taught a wide range of skills including rugby, cricket, basketball and fitness. There are a number of opportunities throughout the year for children to participate competitively with other schools across the area and district, enabling them to develop resilience, build confidence and team building. Our Sports Leader programme is designed to enable our Year 6 children to develop their leadership skills and develop games and activities for all children to participate in on a break and lunchtime.

Additionally, Sinnington Community Primary provides extended wrap around care.  Our After School club enable children to develop a range of skills through a large range of activities. Physical health and wellbeing is promoted through a range of lunch time and after school clubs including Sing Squad.  A number of children also enjoy playing instruments in school on a weekly basis.
